Gould Earns NEAC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Junior Andrea Gould (Fulton, N.Y.) has been selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance for the Wells College women's lacrosse team this past week, the conference office announced Monday.
Wells has now won back-to-back defensive awards from the league office as senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) won the award the week prior. Monday's award announcement marks the first time in program history that multiple players from Wells have won the award in the same season.
Gould scored two goals against Houghton in her team's 23-6 loss last Wednesday, leading her team in goal scoring, while reeling in a team-best four ground balls and converting their team's lone free position shot. She also was responsible for two of her team's three caused turnovers.
In her team's hard-fought 16-12 NEAC victory against Lancaster Bible, Gould posted the game-winning goal and scooped up four ground balls. The game-winner came shortly after a goal from Fargnoli tied the game at 12 with 12:29 left in regulation time. Gould forced home a Fargnoli pass for her 10th goal of the year to place Wells ahead for good.
For her career, Gould has appeared in 32 games for Wells across the previous three years and has scored 29 goals and eight assists for 37 points (29-8=37). She has also reeled in 88 ground balls while collecting 57 draw controls. Defensively, she has also contributed 27 caused turnovers for Wells.
The Express return to action Saturday, Apr. 1 as they will play Wilkes University at 1:30 p.m. on the campus of Ithaca College.
