Wells Express Community Mourns The Passing of Jared Strait
Wells College Athletics is deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of former Wells College Baseball student-athlete and assistant coach, Jared Strait.
Strait came to Wells College in 2016 from Lansing High School and played five seasons for the Express. Jared is the current record holder for appearances (52), starts (39), strikeouts (238), strikeouts in a game (14), and innings pitched (232.1) at Wells College. He is also second all-time in wins (15).
"When I contemplate on Jared Strait, three words instantly spring to mind: confidence, resilience, and loyalty. Jared exuded a quiet confidence that spread to his teammates and anyone he collaborated with. Whether he was pitching on the mound or mentoring from the bullpen, you couldn't help but have faith in Jared.
Win or lose, Jared's commitment to his goals remained unshaken. He always rebounded from setbacks with a purposeful resilience. A steadfast friend, Jared was unfailingly loyal to Wells College, particularly its baseball program. You could always count on him to "have your back" for the full nine innings, and his absence will be deeply felt.
To his family, teammates, and a myriad of friends, may we find peace in our cherished memories of Jared and that we aspire to lead our lives in the manner he would want us to: brimming with confidence, resilience, and unwavering loyalty." Director of athletics, Mike Lindberg.
During his time at Wells, he was named second-team all-conference in the United East conference in 2021. He was named pitcher of the year for Wells College in 2020 and 2021.
"Strait was an immeasurable part of the Wells College baseball program. We lost a great person, athlete, friend, and mentor to not only me, but his teammates and players he coached" Head Coach Ryan Stevens
After playing for the Wells Express and the Cortland Crush of the NYCBL, Jared went on to be an assistant coach for Wells College and play professionally for the Alpine Cowboys in the Pecos league for three seasons.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this time.
For classmates and friends of Jared who may be struggling with this immense loss, know that we grieve together and honor his memory. We extend our deepest sympathies to his teammates, classmates, friends, and family. In this challenging time, please don't hesitate to reach out to a family member, friend, or to available resources:
