Wells College Celebrates the 2021-2022 Athletic Year

On Monday, May 2nd the Wells College Athletic Department hosted our annual Student-Athlete Athletic Awards show.

The show entails each team giving a brief recap of their season and handing out a few awards to athletes on their team they would like to recognize.

Here is a brief overview of the major awards given last night!

The Team Scholarship Award, which is given to the athletic team with the highest overall GPA was awarded to women's soccer! They collected an impressive 3.653 GPA!

The Kathryn S. Maloney is awarded to a member of the senior class who has participated on a varsity team for a minimum of three seasons and has exemplified academic excellence at Wells College. This year's recipient is Alexis Huff of the women's soccer and women's swimming teams!

The Wellsian award is awarded to a student-athlete who embodies the true ideals of team commitment: leadership, discipline, dedication, and sportsmanship. This student-athlete is also an exemplary representative of Wells College and its athletic programs. This was the inaugural year of this award and the first-ever recipient was Ty McBride of the men's basketball team!

The John D. Wilson, Ralph H. Poole Jr. Award is awarded annually to a member of the senior class who, in the spirit of liberal arts education, has made a distinguished contribution during their careers to the athletics program and betterment of the campus community at Wells College. This year it was awarded to Quinten Battle. In his career at Wells, Battle has played on the men's basketball team, the men's soccer team, and the men's lacrosse team. For men's lacrosse, in his career, he has 80 goals and 24 assists for 104 total points!

This year we had two winners of our Student-Athlete of the Year award! First was Roosa Armstead Lehti of the women's volleyball team.  Roosa led the conference at 4.63 digs/set, setting a program record here at Wells in the process. Additionally, she led the conference for the most digs in a single match at 35 (also a school record) and held 3 of the top 5 single-game marks for both the conference and, coincidentally in our program history (35, 31, and 29). The second recipient was Ransel Rodriguez of the men's basketball team. Ransel was named as rookie of the year in the United East conference and in Region 4 for all of NCAA D3 basketball. He was also named to first-team all-conference in the United East. Ransel would lead the Express in points per game (15.3) and assists per game (6.6). That mark would also place him first in the United East conference in assists per game.

Congratulations to all our award winners! We can't wait for what next season will bring us!
