Women's Lacrosse 2022 Season Recap

Women's Lacrosse 2022 Season Recap

On Wednesday, April 28th the Wells women's lacrosse team wrapped up their season with their final game of the season at SUNY Morrisville.

The Express had 3 first-year students join the team this year! Alexis Silva, Sabrina He, and Shelby Courtney. On the opposite side, they were set to graduate 5 seniors! Olivia Maish, Danielle Radivoy, Mackenzie Powers, Ellie Beavers, and Kayla Rowell.

The women's lacrosse team would have a new coach this year as well. The assistant men's lacrosse coach Vic Goeller would take over the 2022 season for the Express and was excited to hit the ground running. He instilled some new weekly team awards to recognize some outstanding play from Express athletes.

The Express would start out their season dropping 4 games in a row. One of those games at home and 3 on the road. However, they would go on to win 2 of their next 3 games knocking off Cedar Crest College and Keystone College. The end of March would mark the halfway point of the season for Wells College, and we had a record of 2-5. Clara Lima was leading the Express in goals scored at this point with 22 goals and 2 assists. Mackenzie Powers was right behind her with 11 goals and 3 assists at the halfway point of the season.

As the second half of the season got underway, the Express went on the road where they would win one game at La Roche College but fall at Mount Aloysius College. The Express would face some difficult opponents on the back half of their schedule and finish their season on a 5-game losing streak. However, there were some bright spots for the Express to celebrate about their season!

Clara Lima and Lauren Spiegel were named to the second-team all-conference of the United East! Lima finished 6th in the United East in goals per game with 3.15. Laurens's stats placed her 3rd in save percentage and 2nd in saves per game (11.46) in the United East conference!

Congratulations to Lauren and Clara!
