'On This Day' Women’s Volleyball Team Opens Hawaii Trip with 5-Set Thriller

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 7, one year ago in 2019.

The Wells College women's volleyball team opened its weekend of action at the Pacific University Invitational at Kailua, Hawaii with a five-set thriller against Simpson College on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019.

The Express dropped the first set by a 25-16 score, but rallied to take the next two sets and go ahead in the match 2-1. Wells took the second set by a 25-19 score and the third set by a 25-20 score.

Simpson also rallied to tie the match at 2-2 with a 25-13 fourth-set win and then closed out the match with a 15-7 edge.

Jackie Allen had 16 kills and Jazzmyne Williams added 11 kills for the Express. Jordan Stoops had 35 assists. Gabby Rivera led Wells with 12 digs.

The Express served a dozen aces in the match with three each from Lorissa Parks, Jackie Allen, and Jordan Stoops. Maritza Scharoun had two solo blocks and two block assists to lead Wells defensively.
