'On This Day' Middlebrook Earns Weekly Conference Honors for 6th Time

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 30, seven years ago in 2013.

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Emily Middlebrook was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013. For the second time this season, Middlebrook received the conference's weekly top honor after her first place finish at the SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcat Classic this past Saturday. Middlebrook and the Express combined for a second-place team finish out of 17 squads, including nine conference teams.

Middlebrook's 5K time across the course was 20:11, topping the list of 187 runners in the race. It was her fourth first-place individual finish across her three-year career. Since joining the team as a freshman in 2011, Middlebrook has led all women's cross country runners at Wells in 21 consecutive races, extending her school record of team-leading finishes.

A six-time winner of the NEAC Runner of the Week award, Middlebrook was also the first back-to-back conference runner of the year, accomplishing that feat in 2011 and 2012 while drawing first team all-conference honors. The NEAC Rookie of the Year in 2011, she has also picked up NEAC Scholar Athlete honors the same season and helped the Express to back-to-back USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Team awards in 2011 and 2012.
