'On This Day' Women's Volleyball Team Sweeps Penn State and St. Elizabeth

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 22, two years ago in 2018.

The Wells College women's volleyball team swept through two North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents in crossover matches Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, hosted by Keuka College. Wells dispatched of Penn State Abington in three sets and followed with a three-set win over College of St. Elizabeth to improve to 3-1 in the NEAC. The collective totals of both matches were 150-92, with an average score of about 25-15 for all six sets.

The Express cruised to the win by set scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-21. Wells hit .207 in the match and four players had five or more kills on the team's total of 29. Jazzmyne Williams had eight kills, Rachel Anderson had six, and Jackie Allen and Amanda Springer each had five. Lorissa Parks led the team with 13 assists and Jordan Stoops had six.

Wells served eight aces including three from Parks and two by Williams.

On the defensive side, Gabby Rivera led the team with nine digs and Allen added eight. Anderson had one solo block and one block assist. Williams, Springer, and Maritza Scharoun finished with two block assists each.

Wells 3, College of St. Elizabeth 0

Set scores were 25-7, 25-15, 25-17. Wells hit .652 in the opening set with 15 kills and no errors over 23 attempts. Over the three sets, Wells hit .322 with 38 kills and 10 errors in 87 attempts.

Jazzmyne Williams led the Express with 12 kills and Rachel Anderson and Jackie Allen had seven each. Setters Lorissa Parks (16) and Jordan Stoops (14) assisted on 30 of the team's 38 kills. Stoops served four aces and Allan and Cheyenne Nowalk served three each.

Williams had 12 digs, Nowalk and Allen had nine each. Rachel Anderson had two solo blocks and one block assist.
