'On This Day' Brazier Becomes Third Player to Hit 1,000 Digs in 5-Set Thriller

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 8, three years ago in 2017.

The Wells College women's volleyball team opened its weekend of play on Sept. 8, 2017 at the University of Rochester Invitational with a thrilling five-set battle with Pitt-Bradford.

During the epic match that went the distance, Olyvia Brazier became the third player in Express history to reach 1,000 digs.

The first set was as close as they come with Pitt-Bradford taking the set by 26-24. The Express was on the wrong side of the score in the second set – that also went to extra points in a 27-25 defeat.

The third and fourth sets were decisive wins by Wells by scores of 25-12 and 25-14, respectively. In the fifth and deciding set, Pitt-Bradford prevailed in another close score at 15-12.

Despite scoring 17 more points than Pitt-Bradford collectively during the five sets, the Express fell on the short side of the match at 3-2.

Jackie Allen had 12 kills and a .132 hitting percentage while Rachel Anderson had 11 kills and hit .250. Eliza Schwab had 34 assists, while Brazier had a team-high 25 digs.

Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo had 17 digs and five service aces. Amanda Springer had seven kills, two solo blocks and five block assists.
