AURORA, N.Y. – Wells College Director of Athletics Michael Borsz announced the hiring of Kylie Burghardt and Daisuke Sekine Monday afternoon. Burghardt will pilot the school’s Field Hockey and Women’s Lacrosse teams while Sekine joins the Express as the Head Athletic Trainer.

Burghardt comes to Aurora after serving as the assistant field hockey coach at Ithaca College for the 2012-13 season. Before joining the Bombers, Burghardt served as the Head Coach of the field hockey program at Trine University in Angola, Ind. At Trine, she also served as the assistant coach for the women’s lacrosse program under Head Coach Scott Morrison and worked primarily with the team’s defenseman.

After attending Cornell University as a freshman in college, Burghardt moved on to SUNY Cortland and played three years of field hockey for the Red Dragons. A 2010 graduate of SUNY Cortland with a degree in Physical Education, Burghardt earned All-Conference and All-Region recognition as a defenseman for the Red Dragons as her teams went a combined 53-8 across her three seasons.

Sekine comes to Wells College following a stint at the Professional Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy in Mamaroneck, N.Y. There, he implemented treatment of injuries and created rehabilitation programs for patients in the physical therapy clinic. He also has experience at both the high school and collegiate levels as an athletic trainer, including stops at Mamaroneck High School and Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md.

While serving as a graduate assistant at Salisbury, he provided medical coverage for the men’s and women’s cross country and tennis teams in addition to women’s volleyball and baseball. He also completed internships at Kearney High School in Kearney, Neb. as well as the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Neb. Sekine has participated in several NCAA tournaments as an athletic trainer, including two Division II women’s basketball championship tournaments and the 2011 NCAA Division III Baseball College World Series.

Sekine possesses certifications from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification, the National Athletic Trainers Association and the National Strengthening and Conditioning Association. A 2009 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a bachelor of science in Exercise Science and Athletic Training, he completed his master’s degree at Salisbury in Applied Health Physiology in 2010.
