Women's & Men's Lacrosse: "On This Day" 5-2-18

"On This Day" is a Wells College Athletics feature designed to look back over the past three seasons when most of our 2020 seniors began play for the Express and what highlights happened to Wells' spring teams on this day on May 2

Women's Lacrosse: May 2, 2018

Four members of the Wells College women's lacrosse team earned all-conference recognition for the 2018 season. The North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams and annual awards on Wednesday, May 2.

The women's lacrosse team qualified for the NEAC playoffs for the first time since 2011 and had a 6-5 overall record. Wells was 5-4 in NEAC regular season games and finished in fifth place. The total of six wins was the program's most wins in a season since 2011 and it was achieved in four fewer games.

Mackenzie Maloney, a junior from Huntington, N.Y., earned first team all-conference honors at attack. She ranked first in the conference in goals during NEAC games with 44, and second in the conference in points (62) and assists (18) during conference play. In 10 games overall, Maloney had 52 goals and 74 points, which ranked first among NEAC players in points per game. Maloney led the Express in draw controls, ground balls, and tied for the team lead in caused turnovers. She earned NEAC Player of the Week honors for the weeks of April 16 and April 23. It is the third year in a row that Maloney earned all-conference honors. As a freshman in 2016, she earned All-NEAC First Team and was conference rookie of the year. She was on the All-NEAC Second Team in 2017.

Anna Bozeat, a junior goalkeeper from Jordan, N.Y., was named to the NEAC Third Team. It is the second year in a row that Bozeat earned all-conference recognition, as she was on the second team in 2017. Bozeat was second in total saves in NEAC games with 98, and her save percentage ranked fifth in NEAC games at 43.8 percent. She ranked second on the team with 34 ground balls and had six caused turnovers. Bozeat was a team captain and had 10 or more saves in eight of the 11 games for the Express.

Quinn Doubet, a senior from Virgil, N.Y., was selected to the NEAC Third Team on defense. Doubet was a four-year starter for the Express as a goalkeeper and defender. She tied for the team lead with 17 caused turnovers and had 21 ground balls and four draw controls. Doubet started all 11 games for Wells. It is her first-career all-conference honor.

Savanah Connors, a sophomore from Moriches, N.Y., earned a spot on the NEAC Third Team at midfield. In conference games she ranked 12th in the NEAC with 27 goals and 20th with 30 points. She was third on the team in overall scoring with 36 points on 31 goals and five assists. Connors was second on the team in draw controls (49), tied for third in ground balls (27), and tied for fourth in caused turnovers (14). Connors was a team captain, and this is her first-career all-conference honor.

Men's Lacrosse: May 2, 2018

Three members of the Wells College men's lacrosse team earned all-conference recognition for the 2018 season as the North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams and annual awards on Wednesday, May 2.

Tanner Mingen earned NEAC First Team honors as a short-stick defensive midfield specialist, Aaron Heisey made the NEAC Second Team at midfield, and Brady Hoose was a NEAC Third Team attackman.

It is the third year in a row that Wells has been represented with a selection to the NEAC First Team and the fourth consecutive year that the Express men's lacrosse program has had at least three players earn all-conference recognition.

Mingen, a senior from Houston, Texas, earned all-conference recognition for the second time in his career. He was a third-team selection at short-stick midfield in 2017. In 2018, Mingen contributed in all aspects of the game for the Express. He led the team with 33 caused turnovers and 93 ground balls. Mingen ranked third on the team in goals, assists, and points, and also saw time at the faceoff X. In conference games, Mingen was second in the NEAC in caused turnovers with 26, and fourth in ground balls with 58. He was 25th in the conference in scoring, in addition to his defensive excellence.

Heisey, a senior from Mechanicsburg, Pa., earned all-conference honors for the second time in his career. He was a first-team selection at midfield in 2016. In 2018, Heisey totaled 35 goals and seven assists for 42 points. He led the team in goals and tied for the team lead in points. In NEAC games, Heisey ranked fifth in the conference in goals (22) and 16th in points (26). He was second on the team in ground balls. Heisey graduates from the program as the all-time career leader in ground balls and third all-time in goals and points.

Hoose, a senior from Syracuse, N.Y., earned his first all-NEAC honor with a spot on the third team. The attackman led Wells with 17 assists and ranked second on the team with 25 goals. His 42 points shared the team lead with Heisey. Within conference games, Hoose ranked eighth in the NEAC in points, and 10th in both goals and assists. Over his two-year Wells career, Hoose totaled 54 goals and 79 points.
