Wells Swimming Teams Become Newest AMCC Member

The AMCC will welcome Wells College as an affiliate member in men's and women's swimming and diving, effective for the 2020-21 academic year.

"This is a mutually beneficial agreement to both the AMCC and to Wells," said AMCC Commissioner Donna Ledwin. "Wells brings a very successful program to the deck which we share with the Empire 8 in the Allegheny Empire Swimming & Diving Championship. Their arrival clearly strengthens the competition in what is already an exciting and challenging event for our student-athletes."

The Express men and women have earned significant success over the past several seasons. The women's team captured the 2020 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship and earned runner-up status in 2019. The men's team finished second in the NEAC in two of the last three seasons (2018 and 2019). The 2020 season marked the final swimming and diving championship for NEAC members.

The Express saw three individuals honored this past season, as well. Saoirse Murphy-Collins was named the NEAC Women's Rookie of the Year while Vincent Chen was named the Men's Rookie of the Year. Additionally, Trish George was named the NEAC Women's Coach of the Year. George will be entering her 16th season with the Express in 2020-21.

"I would like to thank Commissioner Ledwin, President (Kenneth) Macur, and the AMCC Presidents' Council for their unanimous approval of our application for affiliate members." stated Wells Athletic Director Mike Lindberg. "We are grateful for the opportunity to join the AMCC and renew our collegial relationship with the membership as well as provide our student-athletes with an excellent competitive and championship experience."

With the addition of Wells, the AMCC will have seven members which sponsor men's and women's swimming and diving in 2020-21, including Alfred State College, Medaille College, Penn State Altoona, Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Bradford, and SUNY Delhi.
