"Where Are They Now" - Paige Stone

The "Where Are They Now" Wells College Athletics series puts a spotlight on the alumnae and alumni to give the Wells community an inside look at some of its many special student-athletes from years past. We would love to tell your story knowing that part of your journey began with us! Today's segment features Paige Stone.

Paige Stone was a member of the Wells College soccer (2009-12), basketball (2010-11, 2012-13) and softball (2010-13) teams and graduated as a three-sport conference scholar-athlete from Wells with a major in psychology and minor in sociology in 2013.

Paige was named to all-conference teams in soccer and softball and received the Wells College Wilson-Poole Award her senior year which is awarded annually to a member of the senior class who, in the spirit of liberal arts education, has made a distinguished contribution during their careers to the athletics program and betterment of the campus community at Wells College.

Paige collected 82 points in soccer, 53 points in basketball and 44 runs in softball as a significant scorer whether she was on the field, court or diamond. In soccer, she won the team's top rookie and its most valuable player awards in different seasons with 34 career goals and eight game winners. She was an all-conference selection in 2011 when she led the conference in points (45) and goals (19).

In basketball, she added 26 assists and 18 steals over two seasons in 44 appearances. Paige finished with 83 hits, 44 runs, 38 RBI, 155 putouts and 21 assists in softball. She was recently named to two Wells College (soccer and softball) all-decade teams for student-athletes competing between 2010-20.

In a brief question and answer segment with Paige, we asked her to reflect on her time at Wells in looking back, while at the same time offering some advice to current and future Wells College student-athletes:

Wilson - Ralph H. Poole Jr. Award (2013), NEAC Scholar-Athlete (soccer, basketball, softball).

Teams participated on and years of participation: (2009 –12) Soccer; (2010-13) Softball; (2010-11, 2012-13) Basketball.

Current occupation/job description: Director of Academic Success at Hartwick College. I oversee the tutoring program, probation coaching program, a class called success strategies, and I meet with all students regarding academics, scheduling and general academic support.

Professional and/or community clubs/associations: FARGO (Friends and Recent Graduates Organization through Wells College)

Reasons for choosing Wells to continue your athletic career: As a recruit with the soccer team, they made me feel welcomed and I felt like I was part of a family from the very first time I met them.  I also knew I would receive a great education while being able to play the sports I love.

Favorite memory of Wells College (Traditions, Athletics, or Other): There are honestly too many to count, but in general I loved hikes up the hill to practices and games with the team, walking down the hill and seeing amazing sunsets, team lake jumps after pre-season practice, eating at the dining hall with my teammates (and sitting there for hours after we were done eating just to chat), game days (psyches, psych CDs, the feeling of excitement and getting ready to compete, seeing our friends in the stands).  I loved Odd/Even and the Mainly 80's dance.  Wells holds such a special place in my heart and I had such an amazing time there!

Advice you would give to current Wells College Student-Athletes: 1) This sounds cheesy and people probably say this all the time but, enjoy every second.  My time at Wells went by in the blink of an eye.  If I could go back and relive each moment, I would!  The time you have at Wells is what you make it - make it an amazing, memory filled, no regrets kind of experience! 2) Take LOTS of pictures! I went to Wells right when smartphones were starting to come out, so not many people had an IPhone or Android, and we would carry around digital cameras and take pictures of EVERYTHING!  It's so fun to relive those memories and I'm lucky to have them to look back on. 3) Find your people. I found my best friends in the whole wide world on the soccer, basketball and softball teams. I have been in my teammates'/best friend's weddings, I've been asked to be a godmother to one of my Wells' friend's babies, I have six Wells friends in my bridal party for my wedding coming up, and I am so grateful for these connections I was able to foster at Wells, that will last the rest of my life.
