'On This Day' Eight Runners from Wells Compete in Atlantic Region XC Championships

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Nov. 11, three years ago in 2017.

The Wells College men's cross country team competed in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Houghton, N.Y., that included nearly 300 participants representing more than 40 institutions.

Wells College women's cross country junior Amanda Fastiggi represented the Wells College women's cross country runners and finished in the top 200 women participants from nearly 300 runners.

Fastiggi ran a time of 26 minutes, 23.6 seconds over the six-kilometer course with an improvement of three minutes, 38 seconds over her time at the NEAC Championships on Oct. 28 at Morrisville.

Seven Wells runners from the men's team also competed at the Field of Dreams Cross Country Course at Houghton College, but in an eight-kilometer event.

The athletes raced in frigid temperatures that hovered in the mid-20s most of the morning and early afternoon.

Adam Sleezer led the Wells College men's contingent with a time of 28 minutes, 26.9 seconds, which was more than two minutes faster than his time on an 8K course at the NEAC Championships. He finished in 207th place.

Tanner Mingen was next for Wells with a time of 29:22.7. Tony D'Arpino clocked 30:35.9 and Eli Stone placed 269th with a time of 31:25.4.

The final team-scoring member of the pack for the Express was Austin Heil with a time of 32:36.5. Bradlee Sherman finished in 33:40.7 and John Tolley ran 36:25.2.
