'On This Day' Field Hockey Team Collects 100th All-Time Win

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 28, seven years ago in 2013.

AURORA, N.Y. – For the first time in 10 years, the Wells College field hockey team recorded seven goals en route to a 7-0 victory over the Wildcats of Bay Path College Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2013, at the Athletic Association Field.

This afternoon's game marked only the 10th time since the program's inception in 1976 that the team collectively scored seven or more goals. Most recently, the Express scored nine goals against Hood College on Sept. 13, 2003. Wells also fired 45 shots in the game, the most since Oct. 23, 2011 where the Express recorded 31 total shots against Cedar Crest College.

With a victory this afternoon against Bay Path, the Wells College field hockey team has earned 100 wins in their program history. Dating back to the very first win against Hamilton on Oct. 8, 1976, Wells has racked up 100 victories in just over 38 years.

Three different players scored their first collegiate goals in today's game, including Lexi Cohen and Shianne Stokes. Cohen and Stokes each scored twice, while Stokes also added an assist to become the first player since Shelby Moszkowicz to record five points in a game going back to Oct. 23, 2011 against Cedar Crest College.

Courtney Bastian joined Marina Fargnoli as having scored a goal and two assists with Cat Taylor scoring her first collegiate goal at 11:11 to lift Wells to a 3-0 lead.

Senior Avary McKinney, who was honored on Senior Day in a pre-game ceremony, recorded an assist on Cohen's first collegiate goal and fired four shots total in the game.

Wells goalkeeper Sydney Line picked up her second victory of the season, turning aside the lone shot on goal that she faced for her first collegiate shutout.
