'On This Day' Men’s Soccer Team’s Defense Cages Fighting Tigers

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Oct. 18, five years ago in 2015.

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's soccer team did not allow a shot against en route to a 4-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, at the South Athletic Field.

On the afternoon, the Express limited the Fighting Tigers to zero shot attempts. The last time a Wells men's soccer team kept their opponent without an offensive opportunity came on Aug. 30, 2013, a 2-0 victory over D'Youville.

Off an assist from Jack Pilgrim, Max Cherry scored the first goal of the game for Wells, tying him with Delroy Roberts for first place all-time in team history with seven career game-winning goals. Benjamen Schanbacher headed home his team's second goal of the game at 35:59, burying a pass from Justin Bingham.

Pilgrim opened the second half scoring with a goal of his own before sophomore Jim Duchesneau roofed a pass from freshman Christian Garavito at 80:49 to round out the scoring for the Express. Wells went on to fire 27 shots in the game and had all six of the game's corner kick opportunities.

The goalkeeping tandem of Owen May and Trysten McLaughlin did not face a shot in the contest. SUNY Cobleskill's Tanner Puff allowed four goals on 11 shots.
