'On This Day' Stokes Needs 77 Seconds to Net Game Winner

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 6, five years ago in 2015.

AURORA, N.Y. – Three different players recorded a goal for the Wells College field hockey team in their 3-0 shutout victory over New England College on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at the Athletic Association Field.

The Express struck quickly as Shianne Stokes fired home a blast from just under the top of the circle 77 seconds into regulation time. Chandler Fitzgerald, who picked up the assist on Stokes' strike, added an unassisted goal of her own at 24:27, tapping home a loose ball in the crease.

Logan Vincent rounded out the goal scoring for Wells with the first goal of her career in the 70th minute of play, putting back a rebound that came from the stick of Nicole Sales. In total, Wells outshot the Pilgrims by a collective 23-to-1 margin and held the decisive advantage in penalty corners, 18-to-3.

Wells goalkeeper Sydney Line picked up the win for the Express despite not facing a single shot on goal. Karlie Bove, the New England goalkeeper, made 11 saves on 14 total shots faced.
