'On This Day' Bourn Nets Historic Student-Athlete of the Week Award

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 9, five years ago in 2015.

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior back Shelby Bourn (Sidney, N.Y.) was the recipient of the first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week award after an outstanding effort for the Wells College field hockey team this past week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2015.

Bourn helped the Express split a pair of contests to open the season, as she was the anchor of a Wells defense that gave up just two goals on the week while also recording a shutout. The blanking came in a 3-0 win over New England College Sunday, where Bourn and the rest of the defense allowed their opponent to get just one shot off all afternoon.

Across a four-year career in a Wells uniform, Bourn has appeared in 47 career games and has posted nine defensive saves.
