'On This Day' Women’s Soccer Team Scores Nine on the Road for Shutout Win

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Oct. 13, two years ago in 2018.

The Wells College women's soccer team posted its highest-scoring match of the season in a 9-0 victory at the College of St. Elizabeth on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, in Morristown, N.J.

Wells scored four times in the first half and five goals in the second half. Seven different players scored at least one goal for the Express.

The Express started the scoring 15 minutes into the game with an unassisted goal for Madison Beriman, her first goal of the season. Carley Ryan scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half and Autumn McLain also scored before halftime.

Erin Persons scored 1:21 into the second half, and Mackenzie Powers scored twice in the second half, and also assisted on the first goal of the collegiate career for Alexis Huff. Mackenzie Maloney added a goal in the 82nd minute, her team-leading seventh goal of the year.

Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Sterio made three saves and picked up her first collegiate shutout and victory. Wells held a 26-7 advantage in shots and 13-7 advantage in corner kicks.
