Athletics Awards Show Tonight at 7 P.M.

The Wells College athletics department will honor its spring athletes and seniors tonight with a live online awards show that begins at 7 p.m.

Kathryn (Kay) S. Maloney Senior Scholar Athlete

DESCRIPTION OF TEAM AWARDS:

Most Valuable Player/ Runner/ Swimmer

Awarded by the coach to the student-athlete who exhibits exceptional athletic ability and has made outstanding contributions to the team.

Rookie of the Year Award

Awarded by the coach to a first-year player who demonstrates the skill and personal characteristics that are reflected in the philosophy of intercollegiate athletics.

Lesley Wead Zabriskie Express Award

Awarded by the coach to the player who embodies the true ideals of team commitment: leadership, discipline, dedication, and sportsmanship

DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL AWARDS:

Team Achievement Award

This is contested among all Wells College athletics teams and is awarded to the intercollegiate team that achieved the highest grade -point average for the previous two semesters (Spring 2020 and Fall 2020).

Chi Alpha Sigma (New York State Alp ha Omicron Chapter)

Chi Alpha Sigma is a national organization that recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year institutions who excel in both the classroom and competition. In order to be inducted, a student -athlete must attend a four-year accredited college or university that is a member of the NCAA, NAIA, or NCCAA.

The honoree also must achieve at least junior academic standing by the fifth semester or seventh quarter, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade -point average of a 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale).

Kathryn (Kay) S. Maloney Senior Scholar- Athlete Awards

This is awarded to a male and female member of the senior class who has participated on a varsity team for a minimum of three seasons and has exemplified academic excellence at Wells College.
