'On This Day' Middlebrook Earns NEAC Weekly Award after Finishing 4th in CCOCs

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Oct. 15, eight years ago in 2012.

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Sophomore Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) claimed the North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week award for the second time this season, the conference office announced Monday, Oct. 15, 2012. Competing in the Cross Country Only Championship this past Saturday, Oct. 13, Middlebrook and the Express placed fifth overall as a team.

In the 5K race, Middlebrook placed fourth overall as an individual out of 144 qualifying runners with a time of 19:32.27. She has led the Express as an individual runner in all of the squad's 14 races she has participated in since joining the team as a freshman in 2011. In her team's last race, Middlebrook shattered her personal best 5K time at the 2012 Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29 by completing the course in 19:08.

She is also the reigning NEAC Runner of the Year and NEAC Rookie of the Year. Head Coach Julie Bailey, in her third season with the squad, is the conference's reigning Coach of the Year. As a team, the Express' fifth place finish in Saturday's competition was their highest finish of the season.
