'On This Day' Field Hockey Improves to 3-0 with Third Road Win

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 4, 12 years ago in 2008.

Morrisville, NY- The Wells College Field Hockey team tied their win mark from last year by defeating Morrisville State College 2-1 on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2008, in Morrisville.

With the win Wells improves to 3-0 on the season with all three contests being on the road. After opening the season with a pair of shutout wins, the Mustangs were the first team this season to score on the Express.

Paige Corneby broke a 1-1 tie with just under 10 minutes to play to give Wells the win off a fast break in the 60th minute of play with an unassisted tally and beat Morrisville's second-half keeper Sarah Snow.

Elisabeth Rollo netted the first score of the contest at 14:01 to give Wells the early 1-0 lead, connecting on a rebound shot off Morrisville State keeper Stephanie Smith for the score.

Morrisville State evened the contest late in the first half, with a goal from Lauren Bordonaro off a scramble in front of the cage with just over a minute remaining in the half. Erin Kellum earned the assist.

Morrisville State outshot the Express 12-9, but were kept scoreless in the second half as Wells College keeper Beth Cereo recorded the non-conference win, saving five. Cero earned a shutout in the team's season-opening game against Cedar Crest and then split time in the team's second shutout win at Rosemount with keeper Allison Salvatore.
