'On This Day' Stone Leads Wells Golf Team to Fifth at Keuka Invitational

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 13, eight years ago in 2012.

PENN YAN, N.Y. – Freshman Ben Stone tied for sixth place overall as an individual as the Wells College mixed golf team placed fifth overall at the 2012 Keuka Fall Invitational held Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2012, at Lakeside Country Club. As a team, the Express placed fifth overall with a combined score of 364. The Lakers of Oswego State University fired a cumulative 310 to capture first place as a team.

Stone led all Express golfers at the turn, carding a two-over 38 entering the back nine. With a 38 through nine holes, Stone was tied for second overall as an individual. Wrapping up his second nine with a cumulative four-over 40, stone finished the day by shooting a 78, tying him for sixth overall.

Erich Kaempffe posted six pars on the afternoon, finishing with a score of 86 through the 18-hole course. Despite opening up the first four holes of play with two bogeys and two double-bogeys, Alex Manley settled down nicely through the back nine to finish with a cumulative score of 95. Cameron Henkel and Brooke Benedetto wrapped up their afternoons with scores of 105 and 112, respectively.
