'On This Day' Best Finish of the Year for Men's Cross Country Team

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Oct. 14, three years ago in 2017.

The Wells College men's cross country team turned in another strong effort and placed third in a field of 12 teams at the Cross Country Only Conference Championship hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Seneca Lake Park in Geneva, N.Y.

The field of 105 runners represented 13 institutions with 12 complete teams and one incomplete team in the field. It is the highest team finish of the season for Wells, as four of the five scoring runners for the Express finished in the top half of the field.

Liberty League member schools Clarkson and Hobart finished first and second.

Adam Sleezer was 13th overall for Wells with a time of 29 minutes, 14 seconds on the eight-kilometer course. Austin Heil was 22nd with a time of 30:03 and Antonio D'Arpino took 42nd with a time of 32:14. Eli Stone also had a top-50 finish in 49th place with a time of 33:04.

Bradlee Sherman rounded out the scoring for Wells with a time of 34:38, while John Tolley finished in 36:47.
