'On This Day' Wells Swimmers Sweep Weekly Conference Awards

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Nov. 12, eight years ago in 2012.

Hilary Feudale and Matthew Sleezer captured the North Eastern Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week awards in both women's and men's swimming on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012.

Feudale made appearances in five events for Wells against Utica College on Saturday, Nov. 10, not finishing lower than second place in any event while contributing to a total of 21 points in the 65-57 Express victory.

Feudale set a personal record in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a time of 1:08.35 to rank her fourth all-time in program history in that event. She also claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle (0:28.57), while placing second in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.31) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:34), trailing the leader by just greater than one second in the latter event. In relay competition, Feudale helped her team take first place in the 200-yard medley relay with an overall time of 2:05.42.

Sleezer set the program record in the 1000-yard freestyle and placed first in all three of his individual events during the Express' dual against Utica College Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012.  In the aforementioned freestyle event, Sleezer posted a field-best time of 11:36.93, which ranks first all-time in program history and shatters the previous team record by 19 seconds.

Sleezer, who also set the Express record in the 50-yard freestyle last Saturday, now has the top-two marks in that event after finishing with a first-place finish time of 0:22.50 against Utica, while also winning the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 0:51.96. In his only relay appearance in the 200-yard freestyle relay, Sleezer also posted his team's fastest time (0:22.37) while swimming the final lap.
