Sam Carges Named NEAC Assistant Commissioner

LATHAM, N.Y. – Presidents' Council Chair Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour, Commissioner Stephanie Dutton and the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) have announced the appointment of Sam Carges as the league's next assistant commissioner.

Carges comes to the NEAC from Hunter College where he has been handling numerous communications efforts since February 2020, including a number of reimagined digital media projects as a result of the impacts of COVID-19 on athletics operations. Prior to relocating to the N.Y. metro area, Carges served as the Sports Information Director at Virginia Wesleyan University for two years. While at Virginia Wesleyan, Carges led athletic communications efforts for 22 athletic programs and played a key role in developing a new athletic brand for the university. Carges also helped spearhead various video-based promotions and social media strategies to advance the institution's reach and increase engagement in athletics.

"When we began our search for our next Assistant Commissioner, we wanted to find a dynamic, forward-thinking individual to help elevate the NEAC and our brand," Dutton shared. "Sam is that and so much more. We were so impressed with the skill set he possesses but beyond that, he brings an energy and authenticity that is a rare find. We could not be more thrilled for Sam to join the NEAC and we are confident that his creativity will have a significant impact on our communications efforts and how we tell the stories of our student-athletes."

In addition to his work at Hunter and Virginia Wesleyan, Carges also served as an Athletic Communications Assistant at St. John Fisher College. He is a graduate of SUNY Oswego with a B.S. in Broadcast and Mass Communications and a minor in Business Administration and Athletic Coaching.

"I am beyond excited to start working with the NEAC and the schools it encompasses," Carges said. "This conference is moving in the right direction and I am jazzed to hop on board and move forward with it!"

Carges will join the NEAC on Jan. 4, 2021 to round out the two-person leadership team of the NEAC with Dutton.
