'On This Day' Field Hockey Team Records Back-to-Back Weekend Road Wins on 10-10-10

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Oct. 10, ten years ago in 2010.

Baltimore, Md.─ The Wells College field hockey team won their second game in as many days dispelling the College of Notre Dame 3-0 on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2010, in Baltimore, Md. The team began the weekend with a 2-1 win at Hood College the previous day after Kristina Owens potted the game winner.

Valencia Chavez, Owens, and Yurani Farfan all scored to lead the offensive attack for the Express with Owens finishing with a team-high five shots of the team's 23. For the game, the Express held the advantage in shots and penalty corners.

The Express came out aggressive in the first half outshooting the Gators 16-2. Chavez got things rolling for the Express scoring on a scrum in front of the net to give the Express a 1-0 lead at 22:46. Owen extended the Express lead before the close of the first half, scoring on a shot just inside the far post on a pass from Stefanie Miller for a 2-0 lead.

Wells continued to stay aggressive in the second half, while their defense remained suffocating, holding the Gators without a shot the entire half. Farfan scored the third and final goal seven minutes into the second half as the Express cruised to the 3-0 victory.
