'On This Day' Women’s Volleyball Team Improves Win Streak Over Wildcats after Come-from-Behind Victory

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Oct. 11, two years ago in 2018.

The Wells College women's volleyball team rallied for a four-set win over SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at the Schwartz Athletic Center in a North Eastern Athletic Conference match. Set scores were 17-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-14.

SUNY Poly took the opening set with an efficient .333 hitting percentage on 14 kills against just three errors.

Wells rallied to take the next three sets. In the second set, a 7-2 run for the Express sent Wells to a 16-11 advantage. SUNY Poly had 10 attack errors in the set and Wells had 10 kills, including two each from Rachel Anderson, Jackie Allen, and Jazzmyne Williams.

The third set was tied five times in the early part of the set. Wells broke through with a five-point run to make the score 21-16. Two kills from Anderson and one each from Williams and Amanda Springer contributed to that spurt. A kill by Jackie Allen closed out the set 25-20.

The Express cruised in the fourth set with nine kills and a .318 hitting percentage in addition to four service aces and five team blocks.

It is the third-straight win for Wells over the Wildcats dating back to the 2017 season. All three matches have been four-set wins for the Express.

Jackie Allen led Wells with 10 kills and Jazzmyne Williams had nine. The Express hit .234 for the match. Lorissa Parks had 21 assists and Jordan Stoops had 16 assists. Wells served eight aces including three from Williams and two from Stoops. Gabby Rivera led Wells with 16 digs and Allen had 14. At the net, Amanda Springer had three solo blocks and five block assists. Maritza Scharoun had one solo block and three block assists. Lakshmi Martin had four block assists.
