Wells College Athletics Director's Message on Spring Sports

Dear Wells College Staff:

I am very pleased to announce that the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Presidents' Council has, in their words, "approved moving forward with a formal return to competition for spring sports in 2021."

In other words: LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

On March 5, 2021, the Wells College women's basketball team is scheduled to host Elmira College in the lower gym of the Schwartz Athletic Center, marking our first home contest since the pandemic shut down athletics on March 13, 2020. Additional home contests are also scheduled for men's basketball, women's and men's swimming, softball, baseball, and women's and men's lacrosse.

Wells College Athletics is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for competition by following the NCAA, NEAC and NYS Return to Intercollegiate Sports Guidelines.  I must note, however, that New York State's Supplemental Guidance for Athletics at Higher Education Institutions includes the following rule: "No spectators, fans or audience are authorized to attend an intercollegiate sport competition or training program until further notice."

Wells College Athletics plans to livestream all home contests when possible. Please check the Wells College Express website (www.wells-express.com) for updates on athletics schedules and links to our livestreams. We will notify the campus community of any updates from the State of New York and NEAC regarding spectator attendance.

On behalf of the Athletics Department, I want to thank the student-athletes, coaching staff, game staff, athletic training and medical staff, communications staff, the President and Cabinet for their commitment, dedication and patient efforts to get us playing again. We must remain diligent with our efforts to follow Covid-19 protocols, with weekly testing, daily screenings, masking and all other compliance measures.

Thank you, and—LET'S GO!!

Mike Lindberg
