'On This Day' Sowersby Powers Men’s Soccer Team’s Unbeaten Streak to 5

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 14, seven years ago in 2013.

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Powered by two goals from freshman Hunter Sowersby, the Wells College men's soccer team posted a 3-1 victory over the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill Saturday afternoon, Sept. 14, 2013. With the victory, the Express keep their unbeaten streak intact at five in the midst of their best start in program history.

Sowersby opened the scoring on the afternoon, forcing home a feed from J. Tyler Adams in the game's 26th minute to place Wells on the board first. Max Cherry scored the second goal of the game for Wells with only 47 seconds remaining in the first half, scoring weakside off of a deflected shot.

The Fighting Tigers scored only 5:21 into the second half of play, using an unassisted J.C. Barrientos strike to halve the Express advantage. Wells, however, quickly countered with a goal only 1:25 later from Sowersby to conclude the game's scoring. With his second goal of the game, converted off of a pass from Adam Sullivan, Sowersby became the first freshman men's soccer player at Wells since Delroy Roberts '12 to score two goals in one game as a rookie – Roberts accomplished that feat against D'Youville College on Oct. 25, 2008.
