Alyssa Long Selected as New Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

Alyssa Long has been named the new head coach for the Wells College women's lacrosse program.

Long brings coaching and playing experience at various levels of lacrosse to Wells. Since graduating from Lourdes University as the women's lacrosse program's most decorated student-athlete, Long immediately emerged on the coaching scene at Cayuga Community College and Urbana University, respectively.

Long most recently served as assistant coach at NCAA Division II member Urbana University in Ohio. Prior to that, she was head coach in the NJCAA at Cayuga Community College. The Auburn native has also boosted her coaching resume with head or assistant positions at the high school and club levels, while also coaching youths in Auburn for several seasons.

"Alyssa is an excellent addition to our staff and I am pleased to welcome Coach Long to the Express. Her experience as an outstanding player, passion for the sport, and commitment to developing student-athletes, will help our program  achieve successes in the classroom, on the field, and within the campus community," Wells College Director of Athletics Mike Lindberg said.

Long is a 2018 graduate of Lourdes University of Sylvania, Ohio, where she was a four-year player and three-time captain on the women's lacrosse team. On the national level, she is the program's lone National Women's Lacrosse League All-American and earned a national defensive player of the week accolade as a member of the Gray Wolves. Academically, Long was part of two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Scholar Teams during her junior and senior seasons.

Long is listed in the top-four career women's lacrosse records at Lourdes in eight categories, where she is the school's all-time leader in points, goals, assists, shots and draw controls. She is third in game starts and fourth in both games played and ground balls. During her collegiate playing days in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, she was twice an all-conference selection as well as an honorable mention. Long played at both the attack and midfield positions, dominating in the latter with weekly conference accolades as both the top offensive and defensive players.

Long holds season records in points (90), goals (69), assists (21) and shots (140), while also holding five single-game records that include: points (10), goals (8), assists (5), ground balls (10) and shots (17). In addition to her extensive lacrosse resume, Long also spends time as a fitness instructor.

"I would like to thank Michael Lindberg and Provost/Dean of the College, Cindy Speaker for giving me the opportunity to come be part of the Express family. I am extremely excited to join the women's lacrosse program at Wells," Long said.

Long is the 14th head coach of the Wells women's lacrosse program, which began varsity competition in 1980. She replaces Meg Milliman, who led the program from 2018-2020.
